NCC College for Kids Offers August Adventures

Summer at NCC’s College for Kids is just the right mix of challenging material and fun hands-on activities to keep children intellectually stimulated and happy throughout the summer.

Starting on July 30 and running through August 3 the following age- appropriate courses will be offered:

Sports Bots
Children in grades 3-5 will play and learn to creatively use LEGO® building systems. Students will have the chance to design and build motorized, remote-controlled sports bots to compete in rousing games of soccer, hockey, basketball, football and more. Class will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuition: $185

Bash ‘Em Bots
Play-Well engineering instructors will guide students in grades 6-8 in this advanced engineering camp. Students will re-engineer standard vehicles into mechanized machines that can traverse challenging obstacles and battle against fellow bots and colossal creations. Class will run from 12:45-3:45 p.m. Tuition: $185.

Babysitting and First Aid
Students ages 11 – 15 will learn child care techniques including: safety, diapering, feeding and first aid emergency procedures. Students will be certified in both babysitting and first aid upon successful completion of the course. Class will run Monday – Thursday, (July 30 - August 2), from 9a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuition $120.

Creating Video Games
Students in grades 4-5 will attend class from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and students grades 6-8 will attend class from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. They will receive instruction in how to create video games using Scratch programming developed in the M.I.T. media lab. They will also learn to use photo editing and graphic creation to develop original artwork for use in their games. Please bring a flash drive to class. Tuition: $185.

Keyboarding
This class is for beginners as well as returning students in grades 4-7. Children will be able to learn and develop lifelong typing skills. Class will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Online links to practice typing will be used in class. Tuition: $150.

Sewing
Students in grades 5-6 will have class from 9a.m. – 12 p.m. and students in grades 6-8
will attend class from 12:30 – 3:30 p.m. This course will cover the basics of sewing, as well as how to construct creative projects using a safe sewing machine and tools. Students will learn to cut out a pattern, transfer the pattern to fabric, and cut and sew the fabric together. Sewing machines will be provided. Tuition: $195.
