NCC Choir to Sing with Norwalk Symphony Orchestra on October 19

On October 19, the Norwalk Community College Choir will perform with the renowned Norwalk Symphony Orchestra and additional guest choirs, bands and soloists.

The concert will take place at 8 pm at Norwalk Concert Hall in Norwalk City Hall, 125 East Ave., Norwalk, CT.

The first half of the evening, when the NCC Choir will be singing, is titled “The Mahler 1 Immersion.” NSO Musical Director Jonathan Yates will share with the audience a selection of pieces that were borrowed by Mahler in his First Symphony.

The NCC Choir - along with the Staples High School Choir, the New Canaan High School Band, and the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra will be performing the Funeral March from Donizetti’s French Opera, "Dom Sebastien." NCC Librarian Gunnar Sahlin is principal cellist with the Norwalk Symphony.

Local musical ensembles and soloists will perform additional pieces – many of which will be familiar - that were borrowed by Mahler. The evening then culminates with Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 in D, “Titan” (1905). Here, the audience will recognize the excerpts from the “Mahler 1 Immersion” and appreciate the brilliance of the final product. It will definitely be a unique and exciting evening that celebrates the collaboration of arts and education in the Norwalk area.

Tickets for NCC students are $5. Call (203)956-6771 for reservations. For more information, please contact Christine Mangone at cmangone@norwalk.edu
