NCC Foundation LEAP Transfer Scholarship Program

The 2012-2013 NCC Foundation LEAP Transfer Scholarship Application will be available starting May 2, 2012 and will be due by 4pm on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 to Room E311. By clicking the links below, you will be able to download the application, checklist and student worksheet.

The LEAP Transfer Scholarship Program provides promising NCC graduates who are pursuing a Bachelor’s degree with scholarship assistance to a four-year school. This award is renewable for a second year of study.

Before applying for a LEAP Transfer Scholarship, please carefully read the eligibility requirements below.

I. Application Eligibility

You are eligible to apply if you meet the following requirements:

• Possess a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA
• Have applied for and been accepted for graduation from NCC
• Are in good financial standing with the NCC Business Office

II. Selection Criteria

Candidates will be selected based upon the following:

• Academic achievement
• Written and oral communications (including a personal interview)
• Commitment to obtaining a Bachelor’s degree

III. Program Requirements

If awarded a LEAP Transfer Scholarship, you will be required to:

• Maintain enrollment of at least ¾-time at your four-year school
• Maintain at least a 3.0 GPA each semester
• Write a thank-you letter to the NCC Foundation
• Provide unofficial transcripts and written reports at the end of each academic semester
• Be available to meet with the donors of the LEAP Transfer Scholarship Program

For the 2011-2012 academic year, the NCC Foundation awarded a total of $129,000 to 22 students. The average award was $5,842.

ABOUT THE ESSAY

As part of the application process, you will be asked to complete and sign an essay that addresses the following topics:

• Your career and educational goals
• Any extra-curricular or community activities, including any leadership roles
• Unusual circumstances, including financial need, for the committee to consider
• Your academic experience at NCC
• How a LEAP Foundation Scholarship would help you in furthering your educational and career goals

The NCC Writing Center is available to help you with your essay. It is located in Room W110a. It is recommended that you make an appointment to meet with the tutors there, although walk-ins are welcome if space is available. You must make an appointment in person – they are not able to take appointments over the phone. More information is available at the Writing Center Office but you can also call 857-3374.
