This course provides the academic component necessary for acquiring the permit from the state of Connecticut to coach or volunteer coach in the public school system. All those who successfully pass this course, will be issued a 5-year permit from the state of Connecticut. This a 3-credit, pass/fail, academic course that will appear on the students permanent college transcript.
To register for this course, all students must be enrolled in the Connecticut Community College system within the past two years. Those students who are new to Norwalk Community College, must submit a new student application to the Admissions Office, prior to registering for Athletic Coaching, no exceptions. The Norwalk Community College Application can be downloaded at the college website (norwalk.edu).
Once enrolled at the college, the student is required to meet with Athletic Coaching Advisor Ty Griese to complete the appropriate course registration form. Ty can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org or 203-857-7195, where the student can schedule an appointment.

Pre-requisite: Eligibility for ENG 101
Athletic Coaching is divided into three one credit segments covering subject matter required by the Connecticut State Board of Education. The course covers the principles and practices of coaching adolescent athletes; sports psychology, sociology and coaching philosophy; medical aspects of coaching adolescents, including injury prevention, treatment and rehabilitation; and methods & materials, including legal aspects of coaching. Persons who do not hold a valid Connecticut teaching certificate must successfully complete this course material to be eligible to apply for the State of Connecticut Five Year Renewable Coaching Permit, a requirement to coach athletic teams in public schools of the state.
