Seating up to 27 students, the lab uses Sony Virtuoso/Soloist, a digital language lab environment. Audio/video can be sent to each student while students work on screen or on paper. Students can work in pairs and groups. Instructors can monitor students' written and oral work and give immediate feedback. DVDs, audio CDs, VHS tapes (remember those?), and digital files of any type can be used in the lab. The lab also has software for improving grammar, listening, pronunciation, and TOEFL skills.
Students in 022, 132, and 142 credit classes have a 50-minute lab per week. These labs focus on academic listening, note-taking, grammar, and vocabulary essential in college-level work. The lab also has open hours when students can work on assignments, do research, and practice pronunciation, listening, grammar, and TOEFL. We encourage all ESL students to use the lab for self-study. Check the lab schedule below for the open hours.
