Congratulations to NCC’s Building Efficiency and Sustainable Technology program (B.E.S.T) for winning a 2012 Green Coast Award.
The award is presented by Conscious Decisions, a national organization dedicated to providing opportunities for people to learn about green and responsible living practices.
The fifth annual Green Coast Awards program honors and recognizes individuals, businesses, and organizations that are socially and environmentally responsible, promote sustainability, have high ethical standards and make conscious decisions every day to improve resiliency in our communities and support the health of the planet.
Winners must demonstrate a proven record of dedication to sustainable action, product or services; have sustainability as part of their mission or goals; and support local conservation or environmentalism.
The NCC B.E.S.T. program prepares students for new “green-collar jobs” in sustainable building, energy efficiency auditing, and renewable energy. Students study climate change, the latest sustainable building techniques, computer modeling, diagnosing and increasing the energy efficiency, health and safety of existing homes and buildings, and various new energy sources.
Students conduct hands-on energy audits, and recommend measures to improve energy efficiency. Our Auditing course prepares students for the BPI Building Analyst Certification exams and the RESNET Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Certification exams, both nationally recognized accreditations.
The B.E.S.T. certificate consists of 8 courses and 26 undergraduate credits. The entire program can be completed in as little as two semesters. Job placement assistance is included as students near completion of the program. Workforce Investment grants and other financial aid is available to qualified students.
